Feature Section: Attention Deficit Disorder
This Special Feature Section on Attention Deficit Disorder, or ADD, also often referred to as ADHD, resulted in large part from letters and phone calls from HEM reader Sue Parry, of Mercer Island, Washington, who took exception to an advertisement we ran last year. In a letter to the editor (Nov/Dec, 1997) Sue explained: "ADD is an 'invented disease,' it is a 'media-myth,' I urge the publishers of this wonderful magazine to discontinue this advertisement and to stop dealing with this company or any other that is promoting 'ADD' as a legitimate disorder. This tragic exploitation of our precious children's health and well being must stop."
We'd like to extend our appreciation to Sue Parry for bringing this situation to our attention, and we also thank the many contributing parents and writers who helped us bring this information to light.
